The executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in his first week in office display an alarming pattern of disregard for the interests of the American populace. 

From rolling back diversity, equity and inclusion programs to attempting to get rid of birthright citizenship, Trump has made his priorities clear — he does not care about Americans.

He only cares about advancing the interests of the rich, while signing unnecessary orders that are designed to keep the working class divided. 

Unfortunately, Americans have fallen for the manipulation carried out by Trump and his circle of billionaires, and if it was not evident before, it is now clear that the new administration will not be following through with any promises made about improving the lives of working-class citizens. 

Trump signed a total of 26 executive orders Jan. 20. 

Of these executive orders, only three had anything to do with the economy, despite that, according to an Aug. 15 article by PBS, he promised to lower grocery prices on day one.

Other executive orders included “withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization” and “defending women from gender ideology extremism and restoring biological truth to the federal government.”

These executive orders show that Trump is more concerned about spreading harmful rhetoric and sharpening the social division between Americans than fulfilling his promises to improve the lives of working Americans. 

Trump’s executive order that claims to defend women from gender ideology and restore biological truth to the federal government is a display of hate and disregard for actual biological truth.

This executive order states that the federal government will only recognize “two sexes: male and female.” 

If Trump was truly seeking biological truth in signing this order, he would recognize that there are more than two sexes. 

Another instance in this order of Trump’s ignorance of so-called biological truth occurs in Section 2, part (e), which states, “‘Male’ means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small reproductive cell.”

The Y chromosome is not fully activated by the SRY gene until five to six weeks after conception. No fetus is male for the first five to six weeks in utero. By the definition of male given by this executive order, no human falls under the category of male.

If Trump were truly concerned about biological truth, he would not have signed an executive order with such inaccurate statements. 

Trump signed this executive order to spread hate and fear over the non-existent issue of gender ideology. No part of it is protecting women nor is it restoring biological truth.

Trump’s ability to divide the working class is exactly what enabled him to get into office.

I don’t anticipate being able to convince anyone who supports Trump’s actions that he does not have the interests of Americans in mind because of how polarized our society has become.

However, I hold some hope that enough people will realize his true motives. 

Our best bet is to vote for competent people who will not tolerate Trump’s harmful policies because he can only enjoy as much power as we give him through our votes.
