The University of Central Arkansas softball team lost one game, won one game, then tied in the series finale versus Eastern Kentucky University.
UCA (29-17-1, 11-5-1) lost game one of the series in a thriller, 9-8.
The game was close the whole time, with EKU (24-20-1, 11-5-1) taking the first lead after the Colonels walked in a run.
Senior infielder Trinity Brandon then hit a home run in the third inning.
EKU stepped up in its half of the third inning and got four runs on a grand slam.
UCA began to crawl its way back, and after a single by Emma Robertson, UCA had an 8-6 lead.
The Bears pitching began to crumble, and EKU walked it off in the seventh.
The Bears struggled in the first few innings of the second game, but UCA quickly began to climb back.
In the fifth inning of the second game against the Colonels, sophomore infielder Kaitlyn Graham singled to center field and drove in Brandon to cut the lead down to 6-2.
Later in the fifth inning, sophomore infielder L.J. Smith hit a double in the left field gap, scoring freshman utility player Sydney Kildow, making it a 6-3 Eastern Kentucky lead.
EKU did not score in the bottom of the fifth inning, and in the top half of the sixth inning, Graham singled again, this time she shot it down the right field line, scoring Brandon and junior outfielder Renee Christian, cutting the lead to 6-5.
The UCA pitching staff once again shut down the Colonels in their half of the sixth inning.
Then, in the top of the seventh, graduate student catcher and designated player Emma Robertson launched a home run to deep center field, driving in three runs for the Bears, giving them an 8-6 lead.
EKU could not catch up to the Bears, losing in game two of the series, 8-6.
That game marked the third win for UCA this season against EKU.
The third game of the series could go down as the most unique game of the series, as the final score was 5-5, making it the first tie of the season for the Bears.
UCA got off to an early start after a first inning home run for sophomore outfielder Addie Graham, making it a 1-0 UCA lead.
After zero scoring in the next two innings, UCA came up to bat again in the fourth inning and quickly had runners on second and third base.
Senior infielder Lily Hood stepped up to the plate and singled to left field, scoring Smith and Kildow, making it a 3-0 UCA lead.
EKU got one back in its half of the fourth inning, cutting the lead to two.
Nobody scored again until the seventh inning, when Robertson hit her tenth home run of the season. giving the Bears a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, EKU hit two home runs and tied up the game.
The reasoning for the tie is due to a time crunch.
UCA had to get back to the airport in time for its flight, and the Bears decided to call the game, causing the game to end in a rare tie.
The last time UCA softball ran out of time in a game and had to end in a tie was May 4, 2024 versus the Bellarmine Knights.
UCA softball is now 29-17-1 on the season.
