Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy conquered The Masters tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, securing the title in the tournament’s 90th edition.
McIlroy defended his title from last year, finishing Sunday at one-under par for a 12-under total, defeating world number one Scottie Scheffler by one stroke in a close final round.
Sunday’s final round featured low scores across the leaderboard, with several players in contention into the afternoon.
McIlroy’s front nine included three birdies and a three-putt double on hole four. He entered the back nine tied for the lead, needing solid golf for a strong finish. The world number two showed experience and consistency, delivering a flawless back nine with back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. Despite a bogey on 18, no damage was made, securing the one-stroke victory.
Winning at Augusta National is never easy. It took McIlroy 16 attempts before getting it done in 2025 to complete the career Grand Slam. With this win, McIlroy became the fourth player to win back-to-back Masters titles, joining Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.
The Masters, referred to as a tradition unlike any other, once again lived up to its reputation as one of golf’s most prestigious and competitive events, where the victory represents more than just a trophy and a green jacket.
McIlroy got it done when it mattered most, showcasing experience and patience, leading him to his second green jacket and adding another big moment to his career.
