Student Mandy Larios, 19, died early April 20 at Erbach Apartments.
Larios was a freshman criminology major, a UCA Ambassador, a Sigma Kappa member and an Association of Future Alumni member.
According to the Conway Fire Department report, medical first responders arrived at Erbach Apartments at 1:18 a.m. and found Larios “unresponsive and not breathing.”
“Her friends stated that she had come in from a party and threw up, then became unresponsive,” the report states.
After attempting CPR, Pafford Medical Services staff transported Larios to Conway Regional Medical Center.
Faulkner County Coroner Jessica Freeman said Larios’ time of death was 1:17 a.m., and that the cause of death is unknown until an autopsy report is completed, which can take 90 to 100 days.
Sigma Kappa released a statement April 22 about Larios on its Instagram @ucasigmakappa.
“Mandy touched many lives during her time, not only in our chapter but also across campus, with her bright spirit and contagious personality. The Delta Tau chapter will truly never be the same without her, yet we are so grateful for the time that we had with Mandy and are beyond blessed to have known her. As a chapter, we are sending our deepest condolences to Mandy’s family, friends, and loved ones. Mandy will forever be in our hearts.”
The members of Sigma Kappa’s fall 2023 class wrote in the post, “Mandy lit up every room she walked into, without effort. No matter where she went, she always made a friend along the way. When she met someone new, she had a way of making them feel like she had known them forever. Her joyous personality and loving demeanor were incomparable. In addition to her irreplaceable role in our sisterhood, she was involved all over UCA’s campus and leaves so many friends behind. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”
Association of Future Alumni President Alyssa Nolan said, “We are deeply saddened over the loss of Mandy Larios. Mandy had recently interviewed and gotten accepted into The Association of Future Alumni for the 2024-2025 school year.”
Larios was inducted into the organization April 18, where Nolan met Larios.
“Her peers spoke very highly of her. I remember hearing about how involved she was. and how everyone who knew her loved her. She was eager to get involved with AFA and build her connections even more here at UCA and with UCA alumni.
“I know that myself as well as others in AFA really wish we had the chance to get to know her better. We know with full certainty that she would’ve continued to be an outstanding member. Our hearts go out to Mandy’s family and friends, as well as the Sigma Kappa-Delta Tau chapter and UCA Ambassadors, who we know loved Mandy very much,” Nolan said.
Sigma Kappa is hosting a memorial service for Larios at the amphitheater April 25 from 6:30-8 p.m.
“We invite anyone who loved or knew Mandy, to join us as we come together, hand in hand, to celebrate and remember our beloved sister,” Sigma Kappa’s statement said.
