Krispy Kreme has released four festive limited-edition heart-shaped donuts to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Krispy Kreme is also decorating its chocolate and strawberry iced donuts with heart-shaped sprinkles to add festivity to its classic flavors.
All four limited edition donuts cost a whopping $9.42, which is too much, even for these “special” donuts.
These new donuts only slightly twist classic flavors; their main differences are their shape and decoration.
The first flavor is the “Without You I’d Crumble” donut, which is filled with cookie dough-flavored filling, dipped in chocolate icing and topped with chocolate chip cookie crumble.
Unfortunately, this one was horrible.
If you’re a fan of all things cookie dough or have an affinity for Little Rock’s Hurts Donut at 107 E. Markham St., I’m sure you would enjoy this sugar overload.
Something about the thick layer of cookie crumble and chocolate chips made me sick to my stomach.
It was ultimately too sweet for me and my least favorite of all the donuts.
The next on the list is the “I Love You a Choco-Lot” donut, filled with chocolate cream filling, dipped in chocolate icing and decorated with a beautiful piped rose.
The piped rose on this donut stood out in the box.
The flavor is very chocolatey and a classic donut flavor.
The chocolate filling was simply too sweet.
It was not nearly as bad as the cookie dough donut, but it was still too much. If you like a typical chocolate-filled donut, you will surely enjoy this one.
The next donut, “You Color My World,” is filled with cake batter-flavored filling, dipped in red icing and decorated with rainbow heart sprinkles.
The one I got looked disappointing compared to the pictures online because the sprinkles didn’t cover the iced sections of the donut — there were just a few plopped on in the middle.
Luckily, the rest of the donuts lived up to their online image.
Taste-wise, this was number two on my list. It’s a pretty classic donut flavor.
The vanilla cake batter filling is not too sweet and has a solid base.
If the presentation had been slightly better, this might have been my favorite of all of them.
The last new flavor is the “You’re Berry Sweet” donut, which is filled with the classic white filling, topped with strawberry-flavored icing, half-dipped in red sprinkles and features a white fondant heart.
The bright, fruity flavor of the strawberry icing and the creaminess of the white filling balance each other, making a perfect donut.
While I am a fan of strawberry-flavored things, this stood out for different reasons.
It wasn’t too sugary like some of the other donuts, and the presentation was the best.
The bright pink icing and red sprinkles stood out against the brown chocolate icing and darker red icing.
The white heart tied it all together into an eye-catching, delicious donut.
While I rarely crave donuts — and typically like a classic glazed donut the few times I do — I didn’t hate the experience of trying these new flavors.
Some were completely off the table for me, but others I would try again if I desperately needed my sweet tooth satiated.
