With the cold and flu season in full swing, students are struggling to stay healthy and survive this winter season. UCA has done a wonderful job of ensuring student’s physical and mental health are taken care of through various facilities.
The Student Health Clinic is an incredible resource that allows you to be checked and treated for any medical issues, just like a doctor’s office.
There is a women’s clinic on the second floor that specializes in care for female students and staff.
Many students wouldn’t have access to such services unless they were available on campus.
Visiting the Student Health Clinic can be a great way for students to prove illness for attendance grades, and is a great resource for any college student living out of town.
Even for those from nearby cities, it can take up to 40 minutes to make it to certain areas of Little Rock, not including the time to drive back.
The nurses and doctors there genuinely care about the patients they see and take the extra time to get to know students.
While doctor’s offices can be scary, the staff and environment at UCA’s Student Health Center are generally welcoming and not bleak like some other offices.
Another resource that benefits students’ physical health is access to the picturesque HPER center just down the road from the health center. HPER stands for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
There is a wide variety of equipment available for use as well as a packed and exciting group exercise schedule this spring semester.
The instructors are knowledgeable and adjust to the students attending the class, which is important for any fitness class, but especially for those who don’t typically go to the gym.
These classes are a great way to stay active without feeling alone or lost in the gym and can act as a guide for at-home exercises.
The qualified instructors guide students and faculty alike through the 45-minute classes.
Classes offered include yoga, spin, barre, lift, Zumba, mix-fit, dance classes, and water aerobics.
Different classes are offered during morning, noon, and evening hours allowing for students and faculty to find some form of group exercise that fits in with their schedule.
While the Student Health Center and HPER are more known on campus, the Counseling Center is an incredible resource for students struggling with mental health. Students can receive up to ten sessions in a year with a therapist.
This resource is much needed in spaces like a college campus where work, school, and other factors are working against an individual’s mental health.
UCA has done an incredible job at ensuring students have the resources needed to succeed not just academically, but also in their personal lives.
