SGA Chief of Staff Maggie Westlin presented a $14,207.04 proposal to the SGA senate Feb. 19 for new office furniture from a local supplier.
The proposal includes a sofa, two club chairs, two laminate side tables, chamber tables with added privacy shields and executive board desks and chairs.
Westlin cited the need for a more streamlined look, as the SGA office and chambers have not been updated since 2006.
“We hired office workers and began the printing services in 2006, and nothing in here has been updated since then,” Westlin said. “It’s been almost 20 years since anything in here has changed.”
The SGA executive board has been discussing the changes to the office since its summer retreat in 2023.
“Exec also goes on a retreat whenever we first get on over the summer before the full senate goes on a retreat. We talk about our goals for the year, like set dates and stuff like that, and one of our goals this year was to kind of increase student resources within the office and awareness and just overall use of the SGA office,” Westlin said.
SGA would order the furniture from Cousin’s Office Furniture, which has a Conway location at 609 W 6th St. and two more locations in Rogers and Searcy.
SGA will vote on the proposal and where the funds would come from at the next meeting Feb. 26.
UCA Chief of Staff Amy Whitehead also addressed the senate and presented more information and events relating to the April 8 total eclipse.
UCA is preparing for an influx of visitors.
“The purpose of the Eclipse 2024 planning efforts is to provide safe and fun educational programming for the UCA community, while also being a resource by which our alumni, friends and the broader Conway and central Arkansas community can enjoy Eclipse 2024 programming,” Whitehead said, quoting the UCA Eclipse mission statement.
UCA will host a free watch party at Estes Stadium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the day of the eclipse, as well as Barkanalia, a dog-friendly viewing party in front of the College of Business.
Students can submit events and volunteer at both viewing parties.
