“Red Dead Redemption 2” came out in 2018, and quickly took over the gaming world, winning multiple awards such as best performance from The Video Game Awards, which went to Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan. But what else makes this game so special?
“Red Dead Redemption 2” was truly ahead of its time.
With its breathtaking realistic graphics and its one-of-a-kind storyline, this game quickly became one of the best of its time.
The story was similar to a movie.
It started off slow, with the Van Der Linde gang getting stranded in the snowy mountains after escaping from the law following a heist. After multiple intense missions playing Arthur Morgan, the pace of the game drastically changed.
The climax of this story, in my opinion, was right before the big bank heist in chapter four. There were multiple plot twists, including the deaths of two main characters and the crew having to jump on a ship. After they jumped on the ship, there was a terrible storm that caused them to go overboard into the ocean. The team ended up getting washed up on shore on an island off the coast of Cuba. At this point in the game, I had no idea what was going to happen next. The rest of the gang was back at camp, not knowing what occurred at the bank, while the other part of the group was getting washed up in Cuba.
This was the start of chapter five, which in my opinion, was the second-best chapter.
The outlaws were finally able to get off the island and return home, but when Arthur returned back to the camp to look for the gang, they were gone. Fortunately, he was able to find them in a small town north of the big city, where they had robbed the bank.
After everyone reunited, the crew’s only option was to move up north. So they packed up again and moved into a spot in the mountains.
This would be the start of the sixth and final chapter.
Multiple fan polls say that chapter six is the best chapter in the story mode, and I can agree.
Chapter six was full of so many amazing missions. Some made me laugh, some made me lock in and some made me emotional.
The game’s main antagonist was someone by the name of Micah Bell. I knew from the start that he was going to be trouble, and sure enough, he was. In the final mission, Arthur learns that Micah was the person who snitched on the gang after the failed bank heist. Since Micah saved Dutch’s life before the first chapter, Dutch always had a soft spot for Micah.
Unfortunately for the Van Der Linde outlaws, Dutch took Micah’s side, which led to a shoot-out among the gang. Arthur was able to get away, but he had been suffering from tuberculosis, and sadly died on a mountainside.
However, there was a happy ending to the story.
Before Arthur died, he was trying to help a family in the group’s escape.
A man by the name of John Marston, and his wife and young son wouldn’t have been able to live the life they wanted if it wasn’t for Arthur Morgan.
After all said, this game truly had an amazing story, and I am lucky enough to have been able to play it.
