“Power Book II: Ghost” season three premiered March 17 on the STARZ app, but it’s the latest and fifth episode, “No More Chances,” that grabbed my attention. Despite the season premiere being the second most watched show on TV and the most watched show on STARZ, it didn’t pick up till this fifth episode.
The premiere had a major plot twist, while the following episodes were slow.
However, episode five took me through a whirlwind of emotions. From betrayal to secrets being revealed — all leading to a major character’s death — this episode had me on the edge of my seat.
In this season of Power, Noma, a vicious British drug lord played by Caroline Chikezie, was introduced and brought an international aspect to the series.
While the show primarily takes place in New York, in this new episode Tariq St. Patrick, played by Michael Rainey Jr.; Brayden Weston, played by Gianni Palvo; and Effie, played by Alix Lapri; take a trip to Italy alongside tech mogul RSJ, played by Gbenga Akinnagbe, to decide if Weston Holdings would invest in an Italian tech company.
On their trip, Tariq and Effie are met by Noma and Obi, played by Kyle Vincent Terry, Noma and Obi send them on a quest to find a hidden listening device in international arms dealer Francesco Lombardi’s mega-mansion.
Rainey Jr. is a star and does a spectacular job as Tariq. His ability to play such a dynamic character is admirable. Tariq is a studious college student by day and a criminal mastermind by night, which is unrealistic but somehow Rainey Jr. brings it all to life on the screen.
Lapri as Effie is my favorite character in the series. I love how Effie brings an element of dark feminine energy to the show. Effie is a beast, but it’s all masked by her pretty face and intelligence.
While the characters of Power are dominating the streets of New York and killing fellow criminals, they are also killing it in the fashion department. I enjoy seeing what the characters wear in each episode.
It’s apparent the show has a large costume budget, showcasing luxury fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Moncler, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga.
In this episode, when Noma made her surprise visit to Tariq and Effie, she wore an all-black Alexander McQueen suit.
Tariq also wore Alexander McQueen clothing throughout the episode and toted Gucci luggage.
This episode was full of twists and turns. There were several plot twists throughout the episode that will make for a chaotic second half of the season. After watching this episode, it’s safe to say this series is better than the original “Power.”
“Power” has already begun filming season four. A new episode of “Power Book II: Ghost” airs every Friday at midnight on the STARZ app.
