The annual Arkansas Poll has validated all the doubts and criticism surrounding Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders during her term as governor.
The University of Arkansas Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences conducts the Arkansas Poll, a well-known and respected source. According to its website, the poll aims to “supply timely, accurate, and impartial public opinion information on matters of policy and politics to public officials, researchers, students, and the public.”
The poll is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so it decided to punch Gov. Sanders in the gut as a commemoration.
Data shows exactly what we’ve all been thinking; Less than half of Arkansans approve of Gov. Sanders’ performance so far in her short time in office.
Only 48% of the poll-takers approve of her, the lowest approval rating for any Arkansas governor in 20 years.
Can you guess who it was? Yup. Like father, like daughter. Sanders’ dear daddy, Mike Huckabee, garnered a mere 47% approval rating in 2003. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
One can only assume that the almost $20,000 lectern she bought from one of her closest advisers gave Arkansas residents a little push in their negative views of our governor.
If that wasn’t enough, maybe the recent Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought against her by Blue Hog Report journalist and lawyer Matthew Campbell swayed some voters’ minds.
In case you missed it, Sanders refused to disclose her travel records and the costs of trips escorted by State Police and ultimately paid for with taxpayers’ dollars.
Not to mention all the recoil Sanders has faced from the LEARNS Act and the debate about how it will affect public schools.
Sanders has received major backlash from the many scandals she has created for herself in the last few months, and the good people of the Natural State are not impressed – and it sure does show when you take a gander at the 2023 Arkansas Poll.
The Arkansas Poll doesn’t just focus on the Arkansas government; it also surveys people on other public figures, such as the President of the United States.
Gov. Sanders can take one singular sigh of relief because she is not the only public figure under fire. President Joe Biden received a 33% approval rating, not that he cares or could even read it, anyway.
Sanders has held the governor title for only 11 months but has somehow received the lowest approval rating of a governor in 20 years in her first year in office. One might say it’s one of her more significant achievements.
She may have taken one too many tips from her less-favorable father.
Let’s hope that she kicks it in gear soon and turns her status around because if she wants to secure that spot in the White House that she’s been nonchalantly hinting about the last couple of months, like the good old days alongside her pal Donald Trump, she needs to get it together in the likability department.
Not only that, but she needs to prove to us she cares for the well-being of all state residents, not just the ones with money to spare.
