Despite rumors spreading on Yik Yak and Snapchat stories about library hours changing, the Torreyson Library does not plan to change operating hours, UCA Library Director Rodney Lippard said.
“At this time, there are no plans to change library hours,” Lippard said. “Unfortunately, during this semester, there have been a couple of times when we needed to close the library overnight due to staffing shortages.”
Lippard said that the library closed to maintain security.
“While inconvenient, closing the library is sometimes our best option for ensuring that the library remains a safe space for students and staff,” Lippard said.
At the present time, Lippard said there are no definite plans to alter Torreyson’s current operating hours. However, the library is considering ways to streamline operations.
“Recent closures have prompted us to examine how and when the library is being used and how best to optimize library space and efficiently utilize library personnel,” Lippard said.
Ashlynn Sanders is a sophomore nursing major. She said a change to the 24-hour policy wouldn’t have been beneficial.
“As a busy student, I have taken advantage of the library ‘after hours’ on countless occasions,” Sanders said. “Having a quiet space to do work after a busy day keeps me motivated.”
Sanders said that her roommates also take advantage of late-night hours at Torreyson.
“Changing the library hours [would] be detrimental to my typical routine.”
