SGA passed a motion to allocate $921 to The Big Event — a day dedicated to volunteer service, the UCA Gospel Choir requested $15,000 for a Walls Group concert — a contemporary gospel choir and the Interdenominational Christian Council requested $750 for a speaker during SGA’s Oct. 23 meeting.
UCA Gospel Choir’s Jeromy Hunt requested $15,000 for The Walls Group
to perform at UCA.
“We’re asking for $15,000 and what that covers is the performance in total. No travel, no lodging,” Hunt said.
He said The Walls Group performed a virtual concert at UCA in the fall of 2020 or 2021.
“Instead of being virtual,” he said, “we want to bring it back in-person.”
Biology and pre-dentistry major Cori Cullen requested $921 for The Big Event.
Cullen said The Big Event needs about $500 for health care-related expenses and $126 for 300 leaf bags since volunteers ran out last year and had to use trash bags.
The remainder of the budget is for painting supplies.
“We really want to be able to help our community in the best way that we can,” Cullen said.
Cullen said if SGA funded the event, The Big Event would put their logo on the yard signs at job sites and the banner at the opening ceremony.
“I thought it’d be great for us to partner together and to get some help on these supplies because we’re trying to expand The Big Event this year,” she said.
SGA passed the motion to allocate the funds for The Big Event.
Interdenominational Christian Council’s Ramiyah Janay requested $750 for a
speaker at its annual Collegiate Sunday event at True Holiness Saints Center.
Vice President of Finance Phoenix Vu said the Finance Committee will meet to discuss the Gospel Choir and ICC’s requests and present the motion
next week.
SGA will host its first radio show Nov. 13 from 2-3 p.m. with President Colby Wilson, Vice President of Operations Brad Lewis and Senator
Makenna Goss.
