High-profile mother-daughter duo Toya Johnson-Rushing and Reginae Carter shut down WE TV’s mobile app with the first episode release of their highly anticipated reality series “Toya and Reginae.”
Johnson-Rushing and Carter, the ex-wife and daughter of hip-hop star Lil Wayne, give fans a raw, unfiltered look into their lives in the new series.
It is a must-watch for those who follow the pair on social media and have followed their careers throughout the years.
The show gives a behind-the-scenes look at the luxurious, picture-perfect life fans see on their social media pages.
The pair are no strangers to reality television, as they have been featured on “Tiny and Toya,” “My Super Sweet 16,” “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta” and “T.I., and Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle.”
Out of all the shows they were a part of, Johnson-Rushing and Carter were always my favorite cast members.
As a big fan of the two, I was excited to see a series that focused solely on them.
I appreciated the first episode because it felt authentic and captured an authentic look at their day-to-day life.
Not only could viewers see a casual look at their daily routine but in this episode alone they addressed two recent social media scandals.
The issues were: fans speculating that Johnson-Rushing photoshopped her sister Anisha into her wedding photos, and Carter and her boyfriend Ar’mon Warren unfollowed each other on social media and seemingly broke up. Carter and Warren did a couple of YouTube vlogs together and accumulated over 823,000 subscribers across both their accounts. It was a huge shock to fans when they unfollowed each other and made subliminal posts toward each other.
The episode addressed both issues and gave fans some insight into what really was happening behind the social media drama and fan-created rumors.
I liked how they jumped right into the issues, instead of having a fluff first episode. This strategy definitely kept me engaged with the show and made me interested in how the rest of the season will play out and how they will resolve these issues.
Alongside seeing their daily life and family drama, I enjoyed watching their growth from previous reality shows.
In the past, Carter has come off as a young, spoiled nepotism baby, but this series shows us a different side of her. We see her in a totally different light as a young woman, embarking on an acting career and making a name for herself outside of just being “Lil Wayne’s daughter.”
In the episode, we see her training and rehearsing for her new movie “Boxed In 2”, the sequel to her first starring role “Boxed In.”
With Johnson-Rushing, we see her as a newlywed, investing in her business and keeping her family unit together.
Johnson-Rushing gave an inside look into her gym named Weight No More, which she owns with her husband Robert “Red” Rushing.
As the show continues to air, I look forward to seeing their journeys.
The series airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. CT on WE TV and streams every Monday on Allblk.
