Eddie Garrick rediscovers the magic of Christmas in the new Disney+ original movie “Dashing Through the Snow,” which premiered on Nov. 17.
The movie is fun, and heartwarming and should be added to your Christmas movie rotation this year.
The movie stars Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as Eddie Garrick, Lil Rel Howery as Santa Claus, Madison Skye Validum as Charlotte Garrick, and Teyonah Parris as Allison Garrick.
The movie follows an overprotective dad who isn’t fond of Christmas due to a traumatic holiday experience until he meets a new friend nicknamed “Nick.”
From there, Eddie and Nick are chased around Atlanta, Georgia, by a crooked congressman who is out to bring down Santa’s Moonlight Mission.
The pair work together to get ahead of the congressman and save Christmas.
It was directed by Tim Story and written by Scott Rosenberg.
Story is known for directing films such as “Barbershop,” the “Think Like A Man” series, “Shaft” and the “Ride Along” series.
Rosenberg has written popular films like “Jumanji: The Next Level.”
There were several things this movie did well. One, it had all the elements of a perfect Disney Christmas movie.
I loved seeing the lights, Christmas decor and wardrobe. I also enjoyed the hip-hop references in the movie. It was the perfect nod to Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, who is more commonly known for his hip-hop career.
Speaking of music, the soundtrack for this movie was pretty good. It included a mix of modern hip-hop songs, like “Party Up (Up in Here)” by DMX, and Christmas classics like “Jingle Bell Rock.”
The casting for this movie was excellent. Having comedian Lil Rel Howery as Santa Claus made the movie hilarious. It was a shake-up from the traditional Santa Claus depicted in movies.
Howery, as Santa added much comic relief to the movie, while still maintaining a long ombrè beard and red suit.
Howery’s delivery was stellar in the movie and in some parts seemed improvised, and his interactions with Madison Skye Validum (Charlotte Garrick) were so natural.
I also enjoyed seeing Teyonah Parris in the movie as Allison Garrick, Eddie’s wife.
Parris is most known for her role as Monica Rambeau in “The Marvels” and the Disney+ series “WandaVision.” Most recently she starred in “The Marvels,” also released this month.
It was cool to see her take on a different role in Disney’s extensive catalog.
Overall, “Dashing Through The Snow” was a heartwarming and cute film. It is a must-watch during this holiday season.
“Dashing Through The Snow” is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
