Sophomore Hunter Lewis died on Feb. 25 at the age of 20.
The El Paso, Ark. native lived in Farris Hall in the Honors College.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter’s family, friends, classmates, and the many others who are grieving this loss,” UCA President Houston Davis said. “This is an incredibly sad and difficult time, and we are grateful for our strong and supportive community that surrounds those who are hurting with compassion and care.”
Lewis was born in Jacksonville, Ark. on Dec. 20, 2005. From ages 5 -18, Lewis trained in Jiu-Jitsu and eventually earned a purple belt in the martial art.
He also enjoyed gaming, reading and watching movies with his brother, Hayden.
Lewis was described as soft-spoken and accepting of others by those around him.
He graduated from Cabot High School in 2024 and while majoring in computer science at UCA, was included on the Dean’s List for the 2025 fall semester.
Lewis’ funeral will be on March 2 at First Baptist Church in Cabot.
Burial will follow at Cypress Valley Cemetery in Vilonia.
“We ask that you keep Hunter’s loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time and respect the family’s privacy. As a campus community, we care deeply for one another. Please take care of yourselves and each other,” Davis said.
The UCA president’s office said the Counseling Center is providing therapeutic services to all students who might be struggling with “grief, confusion, or concern.”
The center is also available for those who may need to speak with someone about Lewis’ death, the president’s office said.
