Whether it’s the constant comparison or scrolling for hours on end, social media can have an impact on how people view themselves.
Social media is not the first place where people compare themselves to other people and won’t be the last.
However, social media has made these comparisons more constant and visible.
On social media, people get to see influencers or even their own friends posting elaborate and perfectly curated posts.
Most people logically understand that every post someone puts out there is their best version of themselves.
Their best angle with an appealing filter and an aesthetically pleasing post.
People know this because it’s exactly what they do when posting on social media.
The problem is that when people compare themselves to others, they are often comparing their worst moments to someone else’s best moments.
This can create unrealistic expectations about how people should look or live.
The issue of comparison is very evident with fitness influencers.
Many of these fitness influencers post about working out and eating healthy.
These two things are not bad at all because they are good things to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
However, sometimes these posts can be blown out of proportion.
For example, “What I eat in a day” videos are popular; these videos may seem helpful but can be misleading.
Viewers may believe that the food in that video is the healthiest or best option for everyone.
These videos can mislead people about the amount of calories, nutrition or carbs someone may need.
Everyone’s body is different, and not everyone needs the same kind of food or the same amount of food.
Another issue with social media fitness influencers is that some influencers may be posting as if they are doing an extreme workout while not being completely honest about how they achieved their results.
Some influencers may have seemed like they received results from working out when, in all honesty, they obtained those results because of weight loss drugs.
Weight loss medications have skyrocketed recently, it’s featured on social media, the news and in commercials too.
There was a Super Bowl ad for “Hims & Hers,” which is a weight loss medication.
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest games and is the most-streamed event every year.
According to abcNews, “Hims & Hers’” weight loss drug is not required to go through the FDA’s approval process.
This does not ensure its safety because it has not gone through the approval process.
This brand is also pushing this less expensive weight loss drug compared to Ozempic and telling people it is the right answer.
This can be dangerous to anyone who sees this commercial without doing their own research on the negative effects weight loss drugs can have on you.
The truth is, social media and influencers are not going anywhere.
Because social media is not on the decline anytime soon, viewers should be careful about believing everything they see online.
Diets, workouts and lifestyles that are shown in videos and pictures are not always the truth.
Instead of people comparing themselves to edited photos and videos, people should focus on what is best for their body.
