The University of Central Arkansas Office of Student Life held its “Greeks, Grills ‘n Games” event at the Crafton Alumni Pavilion, Thursday, April 16.
The event was organized for all fraternity and sorority life members as an opportunity to come together to celebrate the end of the school year.
Festivities got underway shortly after 5 p.m., when the Greek life organizations made their way across the street onto the football field at Estes Stadium to take a group photo.
Following the taking of the photo, attendees headed back to Crafton Alumni Pavilion to partake in outdoor activities on the football practice field such as soccer, frisbee and spike ball.
Those at the event were also treated to free food, as members of Greek life fired up their grills, serving burgers, hot dogs and more to their peers.
Interfraternity Council President, Ralphie Meeker, took some time to speak about the intentions behind the planning of the event.
Meeker said, “We held this event to commemorate just all of Greek life at UCA and kind of just celebrate the strength of what we have here and what we’ve created with all of the councils … we all kind of just threw our ideas around and picked around to see which ones worked the best.”
While it has been a few years since an event like this was held, Meeker and others who were responsible for the planning of this event said they hope to make it a recurring end of year celebration for those in Greek life.
Meeker said, “We did have some framework to build off of since the last time we did this was in 2021, long before any of us came here, but we kind of just tried to copy that as good as possible and then sprinkle in some ideas there as well. We’re hoping to make this a yearly or bi-yearly thing. It seems that’s the consensus of everyone.”
With the academic stress that accompanies finals looming over the next couple of weeks, the event served as a great opportunity for those participating in Greek life to gather together and celebrate their accomplishments over the course of the school year, while providing a much needed break from the anxieties that come with finals preparation.
