Vortex magazine staff applications for the 2013-14 school year are available in Thompson Hall. The literary magazine is staffed by students, with senior Taylor Hicks acting as editor-in-chief and senior Kayelin Roberts as assistant editor.
After receiving an application, students may apply to become either volunteer judges or paid staff members. Applications can be downloaded from the magazine’s website or can be picked up outside Vortex faculty advisor Garry Craig Powell’s office in Thompson 325.
All applications are due back to Powell on Friday, Sept. 20. Staff meetings are held once a month and interviews for those positions will be held on Monday, Sept. 23.
The magazine earned first place in Magazine General Excellence at the 2013 Arkansas College Media Association conference and is a UCA publication of literature and art. Each year, the magazine publishes original work by UCA students submitted by UCA students.
According the magazine’s website, “much like a vortex, the magazine exists to blend together all forms of creativity and channel it all into one contained spot.”
More information about applications and the Vortex can be found on their website at www.thevortexmagazine.com.
