At approximately 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 31, a UCAPD officer was doing a routine patrol when he noticed the driver’s side door of a green sedan open in the gravel parking lot at Western and College avenues.
He could see several beer bottles and cans lying on the ground beside the door, as well as unopened beer cans inside the car.
UCAPD dispatch contacted the owner of the car, student Branden Longinotti, 18. Longinotti had been at a PIKE party.
When Longinotti arrived to speak with the officer, he smelled strongly of alcohol and had glassy eyes and slurred speech.
The officer and Longinotti talked about the open car door and the beer cans and bottles on the ground and inside the car. The officer told Longinotti to destroy the alcohol.
UCAPD then allowed Longinotti’s friends at the party take him back to his room. His friends did not appear impaired and said that they did not drink any alcohol.
