On Aug. 20, at approximately 3:23 a.m., a UCAPD officer noticed student Jarrett Slater, 19, acting suspiciously in Physical Plant parking lot.
Slater was reportedly peering into parked cars and pulling on their door handles.
The officer observing Slater approached him and proceeded to ask what was going on.
Slater apologized and told the officer he knew what he was doing was wrong. He mentioned he thought someone had broken into his car and that he wanted to do the same to look for money.
UCAPD detained Slater and informed him of his Miranda rights.
Slater willingly agreed to speak with the officer, write down his version of the story and complete a voluntary statement.
Slater was issued a citation for criminal attempt and received a court date of Oct. 21.
