UCA student organization GreenHouse is inviting all international students to weekly pancake dinners on Thursdays at 7 p.m.
The GreenHouse provides community for international students and welcomes all students.
According to its Facebook page, “The Greenhouse is a network of people of faith, who serve the college students of Conway through coffee, cultural events, and community in a cozy old house that just happens to be green.”
On Thursday nights, the GreenHouse has coffee, fellowships, different kinds of pancakes and games available to anyone who wants to join.
The GreenHouse’s history started six years ago when Summit Church in North Little Rock invested in finding a place for students to come and be able to relax and get their minds off of busy school work.
“A lot of people go to college and want to find themselves in partying when, in the end, it does nothing for them,” Director of GreenHouse, Dawson Jones said, “but we throw parties to celebrate life.”
Jones said that he wants to be the living room for the international students because their home is so far away. He adds that he wants the GreenHouse to provide third space for students.
Every two weeks the GreenHouse has a themed party. On Valentine’s Day, they threw a party called “Classy.” The students got to dress up in prom attire and compete through dance for prizes. They have also thrown Super Bowl parties and other big event parties.
The GreenHouse has also raised money for other non-profits, disasters, and greek life.
“We have done fundraisers for sororities and fraternities at restaurants like Pitza 42 to just show the students that we are there for them,” Jones said.
In 2011, when the earthquake struck Japan, the GreenHouse was there for their international students. The GreenHouse raised $3,500 for those who were affected by the disaster.
