UCAPD cited student Osiris Shabazz-Stephenson, 19, for a drug violation at approximately 12:50 p.m. Feb. 15 after being dispatched to Hughes Hall.
When police arrived, officers met with Resident Assistant Devin Lephere, who said that when he walked into the building from the south entrance he could smell a strong odor of marijuana. Lephere also told UCAPD they couldn’t smell it well because someone sprayed cologne.
Officers traced the smell down the hallway and heard a radio playing from an open door at the end of the hallway. When they arrived, officers could smell marijuana coming from room 128.
After asking if they could enter, Shabazz-Stephenson said “yes.” Students Andres Vega, 20, and Micheal Moore, 19, were also in the room, though they did not live there.
UCAPD talked to Shabazz-Stephenson about Lephere’s report and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and he was lethargic. Shabazz-Stephenson gave officers consent to search his room, but they were unable to locate any marijuana.
Shabazz-Stephenson was given a judicial board citation for drug violation.
