It’s been over two years since The Chat’s last studio release, but now they’re back with a vengeance on their new album, “Get Fucked.”

The album is 28 minutes of yelling and killer instruments from the three-man group.

Singer and bassist Eaman Sandwith may not be rocking the bowl-cut mullet combo in new music videos for the album, but The Chats still have the same sound fans expect.

If you aren’t already familiar with The Chats, they’re an Australian punk rock band with a fast and aggressive sound.

The album starts with a quick tempo and heavy guitar with “6L GTR.” The accompanying music video depicts The Chats driving in their own branded van and gawking at the titular sports car on the highway.

The animated music video sounds just like the music, it’s reckless and gritty, and it looks like it belongs on Cartoon Network.

The Chats don’t take themselves too seriously as you see in most music today, and the music is the same: not common today.

“Struck by Lightning,” continues with fun imagery of the band and their antics. As the name suggests, Sandwith describes himself getting struck by lightning: “I can’t see outta my eyes … Thunderbolts run through the sky.”

The music video, alongside the thunderous sound, contains references to some of their Australian inspiration, like the Cosmic Psychos and AC/DC — who they poke fun at in an earlier single, referring to the rock legends as the “second-greatest band in history.”

The Chats are very high energy, making the album a lot of fun to listen to as they shred guitar and make huge leaps in their lyrics.

The track “The Price of Smokes” complains of the rising cost of cigarettes with a lyric that jumps out at listeners: stating that those in Australia’s parliament “ought to be hung by their necks.” According to researchers from the University of Queensland, 48% of people who quit smoking in 2019 in the country did so because of costs, which rose 12.5% annually from 2013-2020, making it the highest price for a pack in the world.

But cigarettes aren’t the only vice to be sung about on “Get Fucked.” One of the last songs on the album, “I’ve Been Drunk In Every Pub In Brisbane,” is precisely what it sounds like.

The lyrics detail a list of different pubs in Brisbane and how drunk Sandwith has been in each one.

Throughout the album, listeners can find a good time from this party-hard group and a slew of Australian slang that you’ll quickly pick up on across all their music.

This album probably isn’t something to listen to while heading to bed or calmly reading a book, but it’s great in the car when you’re feeling energetic or even mad.

There are a lot of songs on the album that can be relatable to your average joe, panic attacks, being paid late and the vices talked about before.

The album ends on an uplifting note with “Getting Better.” Sandwith sings, “Throughout the times I thought that I was nothing, breakout from this old way of feeling.”

The Chat’s bio on Twitter reads “crap, snotty, completely talentless,” after a user on Twitter called them so. If their music is as that user describes, then I want more snotty, talentless Aussies to pick up a guitar.
