Swig — a newly added addition to the Conway community — opened its doors April 18, offering a variety of sweet drinks and treats. However, Swig isn’t a swift stop and what I would consider a swig and a miss.
After carefully plotting my arrival at their new soda shop, to avoid the daunting two-hour wait time, I slipped through the drive-through bright and early to grab several coffee alternatives.
The Texas tab, a combination of vanilla, coconut cream and Dr. Pepper, sparked my interest due to my undying love of Dr. Pepper, yet the thought of this drink was much better than its actual form.
As a person with severe texture issues, the settling of the drink made my stomach turn, and I lost interest in the drink about halfway through.
It tasted like a Dr. Pepper with cream, yet the vanilla added a charming note to the concoction. I weighed whether or not the drink would taste better with another dairy alternative, but I think my affliction towards mixing dairy with beverages — other than coffee — runs too deep.
The raspberry dream, an unfortunate mixture of raspberry puree, Dr. Pepper and coconut cream, turned out to be my personal raspberry nightmare after the raspberry puree became too much for my child-like palate. The puree added a great flavor, yet the clumpiness added a dismal ‘to chew or not to chew’ situation.
Although both Dr. Pepper drinks were a bust, the Waikiki was an intended sweet escape, but it offered more disappointment due to the coconut cream.
A mixture of pineapple, Coke and coconut cream may be the perfect blend to some and was the best among my other options; however, I was faced with a bodily reaction after sipping on the beverage.
While staring at the face of defeat, I tried my final item from the establishment, and to my surprise, it became my favorite item in the mix.
The chocolate chip cookies became a palate cleanser after the laboratory accidents I had picked, and the soft and cold element of the cookies were a nice addition to my morning.
Chocolate chip cookies are hard to mess up — yes. But, I would come back to Swig for the cookies and an alternative beverage.
My misstep in this review was my assumption that because of my love for coconut, I would enjoy coconut cream, and in hindsight, I could’ve chosen some variety amongst my choices.
Potentially, Swig could serve as an alternative to Sonic, and for those who do not encompass a child-like set of texture issues, this is a good coffee alternative.
Although I cannot fathom willingly drinking soda before the hour of 2 p.m., this is perfect for the person who enjoys experimenting with sodas and doesn’t mind sitting in a car line for an extended period of time.
Outside of the products Swig offers, the friendliness of the employees makes it even more difficult for me to dislike their drinks, yet I could always be enticed to try again.
