The Conway City Council approved the city’s application for the Community Spark Grant program at its brief meeting April 8.
The grant, sponsored by Bicycle Friendly America, will give ten different organizations $2,000 for creating a safer bicycling environment.
“They want to implement projects that just make bicycling safe, easy and more accessible,” city grant administrator Robbie Alberson said.
“We hope to maybe install some more protected bike lanes or traffic calming projects, devices,” Alberson said.
The council agreed the grant sounded like a good opportunity for the city to expand its bike travel opportunities.
The resolution was passed unanimously.
The council also approved the nomination of John Ross Henderson to the Conway Corporation Board of Directors.
The council had a letter forwarded to them by Brett Carroll, the CEO of Conway Corp, recommending Henderson for the position.
The council approved the nomination unanimously.
Conway Regional Airport requested for one of its vehicles to be disposed of.
“This is just a truck we have that’s not running,” Jake Briley, Conway regional airport director, said. “It’s got six tires that are going to need to be replaced and we’re going to get rid of it ourselves.”
Briley said the truck was used as a tech line vehicle that focused on running back and forth to hangars.
Briley said the truck was a 2002 model that had already been replaced in 2022.
The council approved the request unanimously.
The last item on the agenda was approving the purchase of a fire apparatus for the Conway Fire Department.
Chief Mike Winter requested the council waive the bid process.
The bid is being waived because the purchase is replacing an already existing apparatus.
“It’s going to hit the streets probably in the next two weeks,” Winter said.
Winter said that by waiving the bid process, the city would save $2,288,530.
The request was passed unanimously.
All city council members were present at the meeting.
The city council’s next meeting took place April 15.
