With summer coming up the talk about people’s bodies will begin to rise once again.
People will go around making what they think to be silly, harmful jokes about having a “beach body.”
Anybody that is on a beach is a beach body and people need to understand that more. People’s self-love tends to go down because of unrealistic expectations for bodies.
This happens through people talking about food, clothes or just looking at pictures of other people and comparing themselves to someone they may not even know.
Don’t get me wrong, caring about keeping your body healthy is not a bad thing at all, in fact it is good, yet I tend to see people doing it for the wrong reasons.
I see people working out or eating healthier because they hate their body when in reality people need to do those things because they love their body.
I’ve been in a few workout classes when the instructor makes a comment around the lines of, “Make these 30 minutes count so you can eat pizza later.”
Workout instructors making comments like this is what leads people to believe that food has to be earned.
Food is what fuels us and it is all about eating in moderation.
If you eat a slice of pizza, cake or a scoop of ice cream you shouldn’t feel like you have to run so many miles to “work it off.”
We are all human. We all need food and we’re all growing.
It’s a part of life.
People post on social media “what I eat in a day” videos.
This is where the creator is sharing with their audience the foods they have consumed that day, all the drinks, snacks and meals.
The reason that this is toxic is because what a stranger eats on one specific day, does not mean that’s what the viewer also needs to eat.
Everyone’s body is different, which means everyone needs different foods and different portions.
Some viewers may watch this video and feel the need to eat less than they need to for their bodies.
This can cause people to starve themselves and lead them to be very unhealthy.
When someone is starving themselves this affects more than just the way they look.
This affects their physical health drastically.
Although what I am talking about is very extreme, people comparing their bodies to other people and thinking they need to live up to an unrealistic standard is unhealthy on any level.
Even if it is just as simple as looking in the mirror wishing they looked a different way.
This is why it is important as the summer approaches for everyone to keep in mind that no two bodies are the same.
It is also important to remember everything you see on social media is fake to some extent.
Everyone has their own unique body and that is what makes everyone special.
Everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their own body, especially in the summer on a beach.
