A shooting at Fifth Avenue Park on Oak Street left two dead and nine injured on April 14, Conway police said.
The nine injured are being treated at local area hospitals and are in stable condition, police said.
In a statement released by the UCA president’s office, it was announced “At this time, we have received no confirmation that UCA students or anyone from the UCA community were involved in the Sunday shootings in any way.”
UCA said there was concern students may have attended the event, as it was “a social event in the Fifth Avenue Park that was part of a series of advertised events.”
“We have also learned that the promotion of several events in the area this weekend included an unauthorized UCA logo,” the statement read. “It is important to know that UCA did not authorize the use of the brand, and our university was not involved in planning or hosting any of the events of the weekend. Any information indicating UCA’s involvement is false.”
The statement concluded with “We believe the promotion was meant to persuade UCA and other college students to attend and falsely align universities with various parties and activities. Again, UCA did not authorize the use of the logo and was not involved in the planning or hosting of these events.”
UCA is working closely with UCAPD and the Conway Police Department during the investigations and is releasing new information as it becomes available.
Conway police have not released the names of any of the suspects or victims at this time.
They also ask residents to avoid the scene of the shooting during the investigation.
