Rap superstar Drake and R&B sensation PARTYNEXTDOOR released a collaborative album titled “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” on Valentine’s Day.
The 21-track album takes listeners on a journey to explore the feelings of love, heartbreak and desire.
Amid the Kendrick Lamar battle, Drake announced last fall that another album was in the works with PARTYNEXTDOOR, who has been an artist on Drake’s recording label “October’s Very Own” since 2013.
The album has been praised for its nostalgic sounds and romantic melodies; similar to the 2011 album “Take Care.”
There are some guest appearances on the album from Pim, Chino Pacas, and Yebba, who appeared on Drake’s 2021 album “Certified Lover Boy.”
This is the first full-length album from Drake since the release of “For All the Dogs” in 2023 and the first project since the shocking rise and success of Drake’s competitor Kendrick Lamar.
The album opens with “CN Tower,” which gives the Toronto sound and feeling that Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR have created since their early success in the 2010s.
The production on the album features sharp and soothing instrumentation on many of the tracks, with some beat changes during the middle of some songs.
Both Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s lyrics in the songs reflect on the themes of having a loving relationship, experiencing heartbreak, and experiencing lust.
Living the life of a bachelor who is successful has always been the theme of a majority of Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s albums.
There are some critics who argue that Drake’s latest work of music lacks the hunger and grit that his earlier songs once had, with most of them being strictly rap songs.
PARTYNEXTDOOR has always been known as a strictly R&B artist who always sets the same theme of love and passion for his albums.
A majority of the tracks feature Drake taking on most of the singing and rapping, while PARTYNEXTDOOR supports in the background, complimenting Drake with soothing vocals.
The song “Deeper” is the only solo track from PARTYNEXTDOOR.
Other collaboration albums such as “Her Loss” with rapper 21 Savage and “What a Time to be Alive” with Future were all Drake-dominated with the other artist helping as a feature.
The album has received mixed reviews from many fans, with some loving the new songs and others saying that it is not Drake’s best work.
Many also feel that the 21 tracks were not necessary, which made the album way too long for some listeners to get through.
Despite all of the mixed reviews, the album has secured the number-one spot on Billboard and is already number one on Apple Music and Spotify.
The album has sold 246,000 units in its first week of sales.
Drake has announced that there will be a solo project coming later this year, while on The Anti Max Win Tour.
