“Delicate,” the 12th season of American Horror Story, has once again graced fans with its luring storyline in its return to the screens April 3.
The show saw a production hiatus due to the SAG-AFTRA strike during 2023; however, fans were still itching for the second accompaniment of the season featuring stars like Emma Roberts, Matthew Czuchry, Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne.
Episodes six and seven continue the story of Madison Montgomery (Roberts) as she navigates an eerie and paranormal pregnancy — the story unfolding more and more by the episode.
Both new episodes covered an aspect of the past, focusing on protagonist Montgomery, her husband Dex Harding (Czuchry) and his former wife, Adeline Harding.
As Montgomery progresses through her final trimester, her odd encounters grow by the day, and old friends become suspicious.
Like any American Horror Story season, the ever-evolving and twisty-turny plot unfolds sinister truths about Harding and his former wife.
Harding and his former wife were shown in a flashback to their marriage, which was rocky due to their small family.
As it turns out, Harding has some experience with paranormal births and also practiced satanic rituals throughout her lifetime.
Harding and his wife are also seen arguing on the subject of a family, leading to secrets
A concept about these episodes that was extremely enjoyable to watch was the utter creepiness of it all.
The horror and gore were tame in the first few episodes compared with previous seasons, but both incorporated what was lacking.
Jump scares and tension scattered the episodes, with eerie side eyes,
The show’s focus has also shifted perspectives minorly, and while I understand the need to elaborate on Montgomery’s story, the backstories are much more enjoyable.
By bringing the former Mrs. Harding into the picture, viewers can have pent-up questions released, just enough to scratch the itch of curiosity.
While many things still need to be answered, I still found a majority of the content in these episodes extremely bewildering.
Another great switch made in these episodes is the acting itself.
I must revoke a former comment of mine about the acting.
Maybe it’s the cast getting comfortable, or maybe I’m a harsh judge, but the acting in both episodes was better than anything I’ve seen in the season so far.
Instead of an awkward dialogue between the main characters, it flowed better and gave the impression that the actors have more on-screen chemistry.
While there were multiple components of the show that I completely adored, I struggled with one concept the most. Kim Kardashian was not to be found in either of these episodes.
She had minor screen time, but it was not enough.
While she may not be the best actor, she gives the show an extra flare of humor.
Most of Kardashian’s lines are humorous, even when they’re not supposed to be.
It could be my deep-rooted love for her, but her character really didn’t see much of a plotline in these last two episodes.
Another part of these newly released episodes that shook me to my core was the ending of the seventh episode, and I wish I could say I have mentally recovered.
There really isn’t a way to elaborate on it, and all I can say is if you’ve seen it, I’m praying for you. Turn to God.
Disregarding the two flaws of the episodes, they showed more promise than part one.
Throughout both episodes, I have completely reformed my opinion on the series, and now consider it a personal favorite of the franchise.
Episodes six and seven rekindled my deep love for the show and reminded me of the epic plotlines created by its mastermind writers.
“Delicate” can be streamed on Hulu and drops new episodes on Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
