Since there was nothing else to watch on TV, the only option was to watch this year’s Grammys.
Comedian Trevor Noah hosted the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place Feb. 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
There was rain earlier throughout the day, but that did not stop the traditional red carpet and all the celebrities from showing off their extraordinary outfits.
All the stars were out and ready to support their fellow industry friends, and many stars were hopeful of winning their first Grammy or adding to their collection of awards.
It was clear that this year’s Grammy Awards was the year for women in music in all genres, as most of the Grammy wins were from women.
SZA and Victoria Monet were perfect examples of the women empowerment movement that is taking place in the music industry as they both won the first Grammy of their careers.
Most of the music released and widespread over the past year has been from artists such as Ice Spice, SZA and Billie Eilish.
Pop star Dua Lipa opened the show with the debut of her new song “Training Season.”
The performance was very different from past performances because she had more background dancers follow her while spinning around on top of a cage.
Lipa talked on the red carpet with Laverne Cox about trying to find a new sound for her album and wanting to experiment with new things.
Singer Miley Cyrus won two Grammy wins for the 2023 song “Flowers.”
Mariah Carey presented Cyrus with the first win for best pop solo performance.
Cyrus wanted Mariah Carey to stand next to her as she accepted her award and gave her acceptance speech because of how much of an icon Carey is and how much singer Cyrus has admired and listened to her music during her career.
Cyrus’ performance of “Flowers” was one highlight of the night as she danced around the stage almost as a Tina Turner-like performance.
Music’s biggest night was filled with many surprises, such as Tracy Chapman performing her 1988 hit single “Fast Car” with country singer Luke Combs, who re-recorded the song in 2023.
This performance was one of the most heartwarming performances of the night.
The most controversial moment of the evening was rapper Jay-Z’s acceptance speech after receiving the “Dr. Dre Global Impact” award.
The “Hard Knock Life” rapper expressed his feelings about his wife Beyonce winning 32 Grammys and never winning the most important category, album of the year.
”I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work,” he said.
Watching Fantasia perform Turner’s hit song “Rolling on the River” as a tribute to the late legendary rock singer seemed emotional and heartwarming for Fantasia.
On American Idol, during season three, Fantasia sang “Rolling on the River” during her first audition.
Celine Dion also made a surprise appearance to present the album of the year award after having a health scare last year.
Taylor Swift left the arena that night with two Grammys for best pop vocal album and the biggest category, album of the year, for her 2023 “Midnights.”
Let’s hope next year’s Grammy Awards will be just as great with Trevor Noah as the permanent host.
