The UCA radio station has been building a new podcast studio for students and faculty members.
The podcast studio, which will sit right next door to the radio station in the Ronnie Williams Student Center, will allow students and faculty members to record their own podcasts and radio shows.
“We can now do two things at one time,” Director of Broadcast Services Steve Owens said.
“Some of the students that may be interested in podcasts may not want to be on air, but now with this new studio, not only can we do two things at once, but we have a whole studio dedicated for people that just want to go in there and record their own podcast.”
Owens said students have full control over whether or not they distribute their podcasts.
He said there are rules in place, but if they follow them, they can have a podcast about whatever they want.
“We’re allowing them with the resources we have to go in and record their own podcast, and that has gotten a great response,” he said.
Student Manager Elizabeth Seymour said she’s excited about the new podcast studio.
“It is another way for students to get involved,” she said. “People actually have a place where they can make podcasts with their friends. They can post it wherever and talk about whatever they want, and I’m so excited about all of the involvement that is coming with it.”
The UCA radio station started out in the basement of Old Main.
In July 2001, it was moved to the basement of the Ronnie Williams Student Center.
In July 2023, the Radio Station moved to the first floor of the student center, making it a focal point on campus.
Owens said he “absolutely” loved the move from the basement to the first floor.
“We had a lot of good years in the basement, but there is only so much you can do down there — especially with the lack of exposure, ” he said.
Owens said there has always been a radio station on our campus, but it just hasn’t been visible to students until now.
Seymour said with this newer station, students can now be involved more than ever before.
“When I first started working here, we were still in the basement, and people had no idea we had a radio station,” she said. “Now, students know about us, faculty knows about us, and more people have been tuning into the radio.”
She said it makes her happy to see students excited that we have a radio station that people can participate in.
It has not yet been announced when the podcast studio will be completed.
Listeners can tune into the radio station by going to 91.3 FM or going to uca.edu and searching “radio.”
