The new indie game “Gori: Cuddly Carnage” is poised to bring a fresh twist to the cyberpunk genre with its feline protagonist and a unique blend of dark humor and fast-paced action.
The upcoming action-adventure game developed by Angry Demon Studio promises a unique gaming experience. It features cyberpunk aesthetics, horror elements and exhilarating, fast-paced arcade-like combat.
The game plunges players into a post-apocalyptic world where they play as Gori, a feline, in a fight for survival. With its unique blend of destruction and humor, “Gori: Cuddly Carnage” is looking to deliver an immersive and entertaining experience that will undoubtedly enthrall fans of the arcade and cyberpunk genres.
Gori is accompanied by his witty hoverboard F.R.A.N.K. and gloomy A.I. companion CH1-P, forming a team to fight against a sinister yet adorable army after their ship is knocked out of space.
“Gori: Cuddly Carnage” features a variety of enemies, including “Ugly-corns” (zombie unicorns) and the more powerful “Slicey-corn. “ The backstory involves “Ultra Pets,” created by Cool-Toys Inc., which were intended to be perfect companions but transformed into nightmarish creatures aiming to eradicate humanity.
“Gori: Cuddly Carnage” is reminiscent of “Yooka-Laylee” with its colorful, cute atmosphere while adding the crude themes one can expect from “Conker’s Bad Fur Day.” The game also has the player looking at every corner for key fragments and other secrets.
Using the hoverboard F.R.A.N.K., players can battle colorful foes while upgrading and altering Gori’s abilities to combat the ever-growing horde in the hope of acquiring a new body for CH1-P.
The game offers a great mix of mechanics that help players combat the cute yet unsettling enemies. Players can upgrade everything at vending machines using currency earned from levels and combos.
The player can boost Gori’s health and attack and purchase cosmetics for the feline hero and his board. Even with the many combinations of abilities, it is still easy to pick up.
The developers even added an optional accessibility feature — the player can just hold the attack button, which can be toggled in the options menu.
“Gori: Cuddly Carnage” seems promising, given its unique take on the cyberpunk genre, but that does not hide its flaws.
While playing Gori, players might observe that the character moves sluggishly, even after using the boost that is later provided. This could make the game feel slow and potentially more accessible than intended for the player.
At certain levels, the game’s frame rate can drop due to the large number of enemies and the number of items the game loads in certain areas. While many of these issues will likely be fixed in the game’s release, they could dissuade potential players from purchasing the game.
“Gori: Cuddly Carnage” is a hyper-violent comic book spin on the character platformer that’s fun and easy to grasp. However, the abundance of comedic banter can be overwhelming, and performance issues plague the experience.
Despite its drawbacks, “Gori: Cuddly Carnage” will likely appeal to players. The combat is enjoyable and stylish, the character designs are charming and numerous upgrades and customizations exist to spend time on.
The game was released Aug. 29 and is available on all major platforms.
