The 2024 presidential election has certainly taken a drastic turn in the past two months.
We are all exhausted already with the debates and strange comments from the candidates and it’s not even November yet.
Politics has never been one of my favorite things to talk about, but this is a serious topic to discuss and to watch closely in our country.
Several issues are in desperate need of attention, such as abortion rights and the economy.
Presidential elections used to be a time when the candidates could have a normal debate with no name-calling and a peaceful transition of power on inauguration day.
Even though election time can be stressful and sometimes annoying, it can also be very entertaining for some right and wrong reasons.
The 2024 election has certainly lived up to the hype so far this year.
For those of you who might not know, President Joe Biden decided to step down as the Democratic nominee in the upcoming election.
The decision came after his disastrous performance in the June presidential debate.
The predecessor for President Joe Biden will be Vice President Kamala Harris.
Before President Biden’s decision to step down, it was pretty clear that he was not going to be able to compete with former President Donald Trump.
All of the momentum shifted toward Donald Trump after a failed assassination attempt on the former president and with the Republican National Convention just a week later.
Most of the people that I would talk to were saying they were planning on sitting out this election when the two choices were Trump and Biden.
The election quickly switched day and night after Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic nomination.
The rallies for the vice president have been sold out and the Democratic National Convention that recently took place in Chicago became a historic event as Vice President Harris took the stage as the first Black woman to accept the nomination.
I feel like Harris being the new Democratic nominee for president of the United States gives the Democratic party a new face and revitalizes their base to go out and vote for a candidate who is younger.
Most of the news networks that I have been watching over these past two months have been drastically covering the vice president at her rallies and recently her first TV interview on CNN.
I have noticed a major shift in energy in this election on social media and even where I live.
People say that they are ready for change and to elect the first woman as president of the United States.
The endorsement that might help the vice president in a major way is pop star Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift has millions of followers around the world and especially women.
I feel like this election will still be very close between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris despite what some of the polls are saying on news stations that have Harris leading.
Just remember to do your research on the candidates and to check your voter registration before election day which is Nov. 5. Early voting begins Oct. 21, and the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 7.
Let’s get out and vote!
