I’ve recently decided that of all the social media apps I’m — unfortunately — constantly toggling between, the one that fulfills me most is the least social of them all.
When it comes to social media, Pinterest takes the cake. This is coming from someone who spends a lot of time on TikTok.
Pinterest has been around since December 2009 making it older than some of the most well-loved apps like Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok.
I’ve had a Pinterest account since I was in fourth grade.
At that point in my life, I was saving images of elaborate makeup and nail designs I couldn’t achieve, pretty dresses and bedrooms that probably belonged to upper-class children.
Regardless of how unattainable my pins may have been back then, I was using my imagination while scrolling through the app.
Today, I use Pinterest for outfit inspiration, home decor ideas, recipes, hair styles and nail designs.
This time of year, Pinterest is the perfect place to spend screen time.
I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions, but I like the idea of having goals and dreams for the upcoming year. Instead of making a list that I wouldn’t be able to stick to, I make yearly mood boards.
Mood boards can illustrate goals, hopes and dreams in a way that is a lot more aesthetic and inspiring than a list.
Pinterest is curated for you. Its home page shows images based on things you’ve already pinned.
One feature that sets it apart is the ability to make collaborative and secret boards.
Pinterest allows users to follow others; however, the app works the same regardless of how many accounts are followed.
An advantage of following other users is the collaboration tool. Users can contribute to shared boards, which is handy for planning events.
I’ve been in several shared boards for weddings, bachelorette and holiday parties.
Secret boards are great if you have friends on Pinterest, but you don’t want them to see what you’re saving. I like to keep my yearly mood boards private, but all my friends can see my nail, hair and outfit inspiration.
I rarely think of Pinterest as a content creation platform, but it is. Artists, small business owners, photographers, designers and so many other creators could benefit from posting their content on Pinterest.
Truly, Pinterest caters to everyone’s lifestyle. Whether you like to save, create, share or collaborate, Pinterest is the most productive social media platform that leaves you feeling fulfilled and inspired instead of drained.
