As we all have probably noticed, UCA switched from a Coke product campus to a Pepsi product campus, which means goodbye Sprite, hello Starry. To which I say: No. That’s not good.
For those who don’t know what Starry is, it is the knockoff version of the best soda in the world: Sprite.
Originally, it was called Sierra Mist — a much better name — and now it is the drink we know of today as Starry.
First off, I just want to say that I had to drink a Starry to do this article justice, so you’re welcome America.
In the words of my boss, “It doesn’t taste right. It ain’t lemon-lime!”
I have spoken to several people about their thoughts on Starry and the answers were mostly the same; Starry tastes different and not for the better. I could not agree more.
I recently put up a poll on my Instagram about which drink was better. Out of 28 votes, only one person said that Starry was better.
Let that sink in for a second. 1 out of 28. I made a personal vow never to drink Starry again.
Starry is the worst drink I have ever tasted, and I’ve drank a Mountain Dew before.
Just thinking about the taste of Starry in my mouth makes me want to vomit. Whoever came up with the drink needs to be fired.
The taste of it is off, and to the people who say Sprite and Starry are the same, you are wrong. The taste of Starry to me is like an energy drink.
Sprite is better for a few reasons.
First, you get what you’re expecting and people are satisfied with the drink, which doesn’t taste like an energy drink, unlike Starry.
Not only that, but some professional athletes drink Sprite.
Sprite is also an endorsement option in the NBA 2K games. You do not see Starry in there, do you? You don’t hear any athletes saying, “Oh, I want to drink a Starry.”
No. Everyone wants a Sprite.
I am tempted to start a petition to bring back Coke products for UCA as I’m now being forced to drink Pepsi, which is not bad by any means, but I just want my Sprite back.
We’ve also lost all the refreshing drink options Ronnie Williams Student Center like Cherry Sprite, Grape Fanta or a Strawberry Coke.
I miss those times. I’m tired of having to go to Walmart or Kum and Go for a Sprite bottle.
Overall, I just think we need to ban Starry from the universe and stick with the OG drink — Sprite.
