Sydney Ambrus is a student at the University of Central Arkansas, studying Journalism with a minor in public relations. What makes her different from the other students at the university is that she also runs her own small business selling tie-dye clothing.
Inspiration and motivation for running a small business come from many different places. Ambrus said her inspiration comes from her dad.
“It started with two t-shirts one summer. I was fourteen years old, and I just tie-dyed a couple of shirts and hung them up,” Ambrus said. “My dad saw them and asked me, ‘Where did you buy these?’ I told him I made them. He suggested that I should start selling them, and said that they look super professional. That evening, I decided to make a business out of it.”
Ambrus took the idea her dad gave her and ran with it quickly. She did not give it much time to settle, but, instead, used the sudden inspiration and began to grow her small business. She created different outlets to advertise her new tie-dye clothes.
“First, I made an Instagram page and started to advertise the different shirts, colors and patterns I could create,” Ambrus said. Shortly after, I made other social media accounts, an email account and eventually the Etsy shop that I have now”
Ambrus said that she used social media to her advantage, using it not only to post her content but as a marketing strategy for her small business as well.
“Social media is how I market my tie-dye. I post a lot on Instagram and Facebook. I’ve also done a couple of pop-up shops around Central Arkansas,” Ambrus said.
She uses her goals as a business plan so that she can understand where she wants to be with her business in the future.
“My goal is to make my brand a household name when it comes to streetwear and apparel. I want to expand more on social media,” Ambrus said. “I also want to design some merchandise for one of my favorite NBA players. It is my dream to see one of my favorite players wear my brand.”
