Dancers United, a registered student organization at UCA, hosted their annual Valentine’s show. The show featured a plethora of original choreographed dances featuring different styles.
The president of Dancers United, Ionia Thomas, said “We only have one Valentine’s show a semester, so this is an event we heavily advertise so people won’t miss it. We are all trained in different styles of dance: acro, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and we put them all together. Tonight, we are dancing from what we feel.” Thomas also said, “Dancers United was founded in 2009, so we are continuing the legacy of dancing for the greater good.”
The show featured tons of creative costumes, sets, and red. DU’s Choreographer, Ashley Nicole said “We have been preparing since late October, early November. It takes a while to get all of the cast members together and create artistry. I usually have an idea in mind of what we will dance to, but I always want to hear input. We are a very diverse group of dancers, and we try to bring all art forms together.”
It featured over thirty dancers from all different backgrounds of dance. Dance member Jharyse O’Neal said “I am a graduate student, but I’ve been dancing in this organization since 2022. The Valentine’s show was my first performance, and I’ve found family here ever since. I would encourage newcomers to try different things because it’s all just for fun. I chose my outfit, and my song as well and co-choreographed it too.”
Dancers United continues to uplift and inspire the next generation of artists to think and dream big. If you are interested in joining, the dance group rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday at the Thomas C. Courtway Student Recreation Center.
