On Jan. 1, 2026 Jason Black became the superintendent for the Conway Public School District (CPSD).
Black served as the interim superintendent for CPSD from July until Jan. 1.
Black started his interim superintendent because the old superintendent for CPSD was voted to be removed according to the Arkansas Times.
The Conway School Board came to an agreement with former superintendent, Jeff Collum, for $461,000.
“This comes after years of parents bringing their concerns to light,” according to KATV.
Prior to being the interim superintendent for CPSD, Black was a previous superintendent for the Smackover-Norphlet school district according to THV 11.
“[Jason Black] has held a variety of leadership roles in public education over the past 20 years, including deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, and teacher/coaches,” according to THV 11.
According to the Arkansas Times the vote for Black to become superintendent was 4-3.
According to THV 11, “This was a thoughtful and deliberate decision,” Franklin said. “We evaluated each finalist carefully, not only on qualifications, but on their ability to lead Conway Public Schools effectively at this moment in time. After extensive consideration, the Board concluded that Jason Black demonstrated the strongest combination of knowledge, experience, and readiness to lead the district forward with stability and purpose.”
According to the Conway Public Schools website Black said, “It’s an honor to serve this district and community. As a father of three CPSD students and husband to a Conway educator, I’ve seen firsthand the heart and dedication that make our schools so special.”
Black explained what his goal is as superintendent for the CPSD, “My focus is simple: Students, Teachers, Staff, and Families of Conway Public Schools. We’ll continue working together to grow, improve, and provide the very best for our community,” Black said.
