At about 12:33 a.m. on Aug. 31, a UCAPD officer was doing a routine patrol when she observed three males leaning against a car and smoking in the parking lot on the corner of College and Western avenues.
The officer approached students Matthew Pearce, Eric Smith and Willie Matthews. The officer alerted them that they could not smoke on campus, but pointed to the corner of Augusta Avenue and College Avenue and said that they could smoke there. UCAPD told them that they would run their information in the UCAPD system so that if they were caught for the same violation again, they could be written citations.
While running their information, the UCAPD officer found that Matthews had an outstanding warrant with the Conway Police Department. CPD soon arrived at the location, confirmed the warrant and took Matthews into custody.
