Student led publications The Echo and News6 won over 30 awards at the annual Arkansas College Media Association awards.
Both publications won the general excellence awards in their respective categories. The Echo was awarded newspaper of the year. News6 was awarded television outlet of the year.
Senior Addison Freeman, editor-in-chief of The Echo, won reporter of the year.
The Echo placed first in editorial cartoon (sophomore Madison Ogle), election/political writing (senior Edmund Burke), online coverage of a meeting/speech (junior Delaney Van Wilpe) and online newswriting (alumna Elvira Toddy).
News6 placed first in interpretative/investigative for “Pedestrian Walkway over Stone Dam Creek on Campus,” by senior Trevor Cook.
News6 placed second interpretative/investigative for “Local Music During the Pandemic,” by Senior Chase Mauk.
The Echo placed second for photographer of the year (Madison Ogle), general column (Olyvia Gonzalez), sports column (Junior Emilee Hagewood), online arts & entertainment coverage (alumn Jacob Smith), online editorials/commentary/blogs (Delaney Van Wilpe), online newswriting (junior Sarah Smythe), online meeting/speech coverage (sophomore Mia Waddell) and topical reporting/blogs (senior Bennett Tinnermon).
News 6 placed third in broadcast news reporting with Senior Berris Teague’s “Pumpkin Patch.” Brett Walker’s “Campus Reacreation” placed third in the sports feature category.
The Echo placed third for newspaper editor of the year (Delaney Van Wilpe), art/illustration (Madison Ogle), editorial cartoon (Madison Ogle), front page layout (Delaney Van Wilpe), news photo (senior Ian Lyle), sports feature (Madison Ogle) and sports photo (senior Lindzie Lunsford).
