Kassi’s Cookies, a bakery originally from Mayflower, has opened a location in downtown Conway.
Kassi Posey, 23, opened the bakery in Mayflower in October 2020.
“I opened my business because I’ve always wanted to be my own boss & I knew I’d never work hard unless I was working hard for myself,” Posey said.
Posey never intended to be a baker. She graduated from Arkansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and social media management.
“I never baked a day in my life until 2020, when COVID-19 hit, and I was extremely bored. I didn’t have anything fun to do, because the world shut down and everyone was trapped inside — so I learned how to bake for the fun of it, and here we are,” Posey said.
Posey attributes some of the success of her business to her degree from ASU.
“Quality ingredients, a unique offering & my ability to know how to use social media to successfully advertise and market my brand,” Posey said.
She also attributes a lot of the success of her business to hard work.
“There’s no such thing as being successful overnight. Having a successful business isn’t something that just falls in your lap. You get out what you put in,” Posey said. “I’m convinced that the harder you work towards something, the more successful you will be. Hard work always equals success.”
Posey said the biggest lesson she learned was opening and owning a business is not easy.
“Owning your own business doesn’t make you automatically rich. It does, however, make you work 24/7 rather than just 40 hours a week,” Posey said. “The biggest lesson overall is that anything worth anything is not easy. If you want something of your own, you have to work for it.”
Posey opened a location in Conway because of the large number of people who drive from Conway to Mayflower to visit her bakery.
She said that opening a location in Conway was one of the biggest goals for the business.
Posey said, “My favorite part of having Kassi’s downtown is the love and support that Conway shows local businesses.
“There are so many thriving local businesses in Conway and it’s because of the awesome culture and community that has been built,” Posey said.
One of the perks of owning her business is having something that shows off all her hard work. “It’s tangible evidence of my ability and ambition,” she said.
Kassi’s Cookies, at 115 Oak St., is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
