Christmas is overrated. As the most liked holiday in the United States, Christmas decorations dominate the stores before the best holiday of them all — Halloween.
The fact of the matter is that Halloween has so much more to offer than any other holiday. It’s a holiday where you can celebrate and do activities for an entire month and it’s fun for all ages. You know how Christmas stops feeling like Christmas the older you get? Well for Halloween it’s pure excitement as a kid and that feeling remains throughout adulthood, due to the number of activities revolving around the holiday.
The most notable activity is getting to dress up as whoever or whatever you want. Your costume can have as much depth and creativity as you want it to, ranging from a vampire to Bob Ross. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love getting to dress up and pretend to be someone else?
Pumpkin patches are also a major part of Halloween, and provide a plethora of activities. You can go and take cute, aesthetic pictures with friends, navigate a corn maze or go for a hayride. Of course, you can find yourself a pumpkin or two to carry on the festivities by carving pumpkins! Carving pumpkins and assembling your costume are two things you get to be as creative as you want, which is part of why Halloween is the best.
There are not many holidays where you get to be super creative and the best part is you get to do it with family and friends! Christmas, for example, is usually reserved for family, as well as Thanksgiving. It’s refreshing to be able to have a holiday where you can have fun and celebrate with both.
One of the more thrilling activities is haunted houses. Designed to make you engage with your fear, it is easily one of the best parts of Halloween and what makes the holiday so unique.
This activity is targeted for kids from around eighth grade to adults and is a right of passage from trick-or-treating. There’s nothing like the excitement of fear while waiting in line with bloody, hair-raising and just plain creepy individuals walking around you encouraging that fear.
Having a night in watching Halloween-themed or scary movies is another activity the holiday has to offer that makes it so great. Halloweentown, Twitches and Hocus Pocus are some classic gems that Halloween has given us.
We can’t forget about the aesthetic and décor that also come with Halloween. Ranging from spooky to pumpkin-everything, the vibe is good no matter what. Black, orange, purple and white alongside skulls, spiderwebs and pumpkins provide a mystical ambience like no other.
It’s not the usual warm, fuzzy feeling provided by Christmas but a sense of excitement and the pure fun Halloween brings.
Halloween is not a holiday to be overlooked and deserves more appreciation than it receives. While Christmas is fun, it doesn’t provide the number of activities and togetherness of both friends and family that Halloween has to offer — and if you like Christmas more for the presents, don’t worry, you can always be gifted a spooky basket!
