UCA’s 11th Day of Giving is going on all day March 13.
Day of Giving is a 24-hour event for people to support UCA.
UCA President Houston Davis said, “Day of Giving is a one-day giving opportunity for students, alumni, family, friends, faculty and staff to support UCA. Groups and individuals are encouraged to give to UCA year-round, but this 24-hour period is a focused effort to encourage individuals to make donations to the specific area of the university that they support the most and see making the greatest impact.”
This event raises money for many different organizations, scholarships and more.
Davis said, “One of the most significant ways Day of Giving has affected campus is through student scholarships. We have a number of named scholarships in the UCA Foundation that receive additional funds on Day of Giving. As you look around campus, you can see other areas that have been greatly impacted by Day of Giving: the Main Stage EdUCAtion series at Reynolds Performance Hall and Bear Essentials Food Pantry to name a few.”
With this being the 11th Day of Giving event there have been some adjustments and improvements to this fundraiser.
Vice President of Advancement Mary Bane Lackie said, “We learn new things every year, of course, and make changes as needed. The biggest improvement, however, was a decision made for Day of Giving 2018 to partner with UCA campus programs and organizations so that people could give to the things they care the most about. The year we opened it up our goal was $50 thousand, but we raised more than $434 thousand. Before that, it only supported the annual fund.”
All of the Conway community can be involved in Day of Giving, as every dollar and gift donated is used.
Davis said, “Every gift counts, and we make it easy for you to direct your contribution to the fund that means the most to you. Regardless of the amount of the gift, it is all important. From one person giving $5 to another committing $25,000, all gifts support this institution and our goals. Sometimes we think we cannot give because it is not a large gift, but truly every gift counts.”
Day of Giving also looks to help students.
Lackie said, “Our goal is always to do better than the year before on both of those things. Another less tangible goal is that it helps educate our campus — faculty, staff and students — about the importance of giving.”
A few of the organizations that the community can give to include but are not limited to Greek Life, Living Learning Communities and Student Affairs.
Some scholarships that are available to donate to are First Gen@UCA Scholarship and Alumni Scholarship Fund.
There are many more options to donate to, the community can give online to their organization of choice, and how much they want.
