1. Student center meeting rooms
With a massive amount of desk space, plenty of quiet and the comfiest office chairs on campus, the student center meeting rooms are the best to study in. Since it’s inside, it’s air-conditioned, but the windows reaching from floor to ceiling give a great view of campus. The only downside to this spot is its rarity — they are meeting rooms, so they’re sometimes in use. However, it just makes the spot that much more enticing, and when you do get lucky, this is one of the best places to chill.
2. Schichtl sensory garden
Tucked away between Bernard Hall and Schichtl Center for Honors Education lies a porch with cozy chairs and tables. This hidden spot makes for one of the best outside study spots; it’s partially protected from weather, but still open enough to enjoy fresh air. Furthermore, it’s situated right in front of a mural, a nice change from the brick and concrete walls that litter the campus. The only thing lacking is desk space, but it’s perfect for a good read. Though it goes unnoticed in its almost alleyway, this spot is one of the comfiest you’ll find.
3. Library study rooms
Classic and reliable, Torreyson Library will always have a study spot somewhere. Though the actual study rooms are often occupied or reserved in advance, there are plenty of other spaces around the library. However, when you find an open study room, nothing can compare — it’s designed to have everything you would want, from good desk space to whiteboards to soundproof walls. Many students covet these spots, and there are dozens of them scattered throughout the library.
4. English Department in Irby
If you have a class in Irby and need time to kill beforehand, consider stopping by the English department — or, for that matter, any department. These spaces are where your professors spend their office hours, so they’ll be outfitted with plenty of comfy spaces and a good vibe. You might even see your professors around, and the atmosphere is just delightful. Plus, in this spot, you’re probably close to your classes, so you don’t have to worry about walking across campus. This spot is perfect for small breaks and study sessions.
5. Amphitheater
On a nice day, the amphitheater is one of the best spots on campus to sit down. While it isn’t guaranteed to be a nice day, there are benches and tables everywhere, and its proximity to important buildings on campus is an added bonus. The amphitheater also gets a lot of student traffic, so if you enjoy people-watching, it’s a good spot to see some familiar faces. If you stay long enough, you might even see events at the amphitheater, from concerts to volunteer readings to butterfly gardens.
