This week the Student Government Association met and kicked off their meeting with an announcement from Jacob Christie, Associate Director of Student Success Services. He announced that tutoring will be available through finals week, focusing but not limited to STEM subjects. Afterwards Christie announced scheduled group studies for finals.
“That’s going to be December 4, from five to six and six to 7pm in college physics, one, in math, 1390, which is college algebra one, and also for general chemistry, for Health Sciences, students that are already taking these classes will get emails prompting them to sign up if they are interested in coming in for group tutoring,” Christie said.
UCA tutoring and success coaching is already included in tuition and fees so students are able to access these resources with no extra cost.
”Another thing too I wanted to mention is that success coaching is also available. It’s in the Student Success of Veteran Resource Center. Success Coaching is an opportunity for a student who’s done really, really well to sit down with other students and review things like time management, right or goal setting, or perhaps maybe putting together a good study routine to help them to get the most out of their study sessions and their time preparing for finals, to help them to be prepared for finals as well as they can possibly be. So both of these services, both tutoring and success coaching and supplemental instruction. Really, every single program that we offer is available for you to charge and does not cost anything at all,” Christie said.
“The Tutoring and Academic Support Center is located on the second floor room 223 of the library, right above Starbucks” Christie said
Christie’s announcement was followed by a SAFA funding request from the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and National Pan-Hellenic Council for the Association of Fraternity Leadership and Values (ASLV) conference in Indianapolis. With a request of $8,256 for hotel and travel expenses to bring twenty of their combined executives.
The Finance Committee of SGA decided not to fund the AFLB in a vote with 5 in support and 27 objections to funding the conference citing its limited potential impact on students.
Senator Richard Ware rose in regards of the seriousness of academic integrity
“Just know that academic integrity discipline is taken very seriously on this campus, and that patterns of being able to break that sort of integrity will show,” Ware said.
SGA allocated 5,775 for a student outreach platform
There was a Senate resolution proposing the recognition of men’s mental health awareness month for November.
There was some confusion to its proposal because some parts of the world celebrate men’s mental health month in November or June.
There was then an amendment to have UCA recognize men’s mental health for November reasoning that June was not part of the traditional school year.
Senator Abigail Wells, the representative for the college of arts, humanities and social sciences was elected as Senator of the Month.
After the official meeting senator Wells hit a celebratory “griddy”.
