I haven’t always been an avid watcher of “The Bachelor” and ” The Bachelorette.” Still, after watching the past couple of seasons, I finally see what everyone’s been talking about.
“It isn’t like it used to be,” and “they are there just for the fame,” are all I keep hearing from social media and those around me. While I don’t know what it was like before the past 2 seasons, I can already start to see what everyone means.
How is this new season of “The Bachelorette” any different? From utilizing the ‘Call her Daddy’ podcast and Alex Cooper for promo to pushing that this is going to be new and exciting. The first post showed Cooper cutting into a cake with “Season 30” written on top. This made fans, including myself, spiral into asking what this could mean. We finally got an announcement: “The Bachelorette” would be coming back after all, with a lead who hasn’t been on the franchise before.
Everyone was on their toes, including me. I kept wondering if they would bring someone from another reality dating show like ‘Love Island’ or if it would be someone who has never been on television. Then my feed was flooded. Taylor Frankie Paul from ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ is the lead for the new season of “The Bachelorette.”
My mind kept going back to the comments I have always been told: “They are just in it for the money.” That is exactly what this feels like, or a poor attempt at reviving the show. Everyone has been obsessed with “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” as we can see with two members being on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars”. It seems that ABC is pushing forward with what is going well for them.
By putting three of these reality television women on other shows, they are drawing in more viewers. People are wondering what is going to happen on each show, mainly the drama that is going to come from it. We all already know before it starts that Taylor being on the Bachelorette is going to cause drama in the world of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The drama might be interesting, but watching the show to see someone find love might be missing some of the feeling it used to have. I hope she can put her past behind her and find someone perfect for her.
While everyone, including TV personalities, deserves love, I wish these dating shows would bring back real people instead of shuffling around the stars they have in other hit shows. Will I still put the Bachelorette on? Probably if I have time. I am not really that interested in seeing where it goes. What I will be interested in and like to see is how this season either pushes the franchise forward or if it will be included in the long line of crashes and burns that have come their way.
