Students brewed original creations Nov. 14 during Canvas and Coffee hosted by the Student Activities Board.
The event was held in the Ronnie Williams Student Center ballroom, where students had a fall-themed night of fun painting canvas, grabbing coffee and conversing with friends.
Students filled the ballroom with friends and high spirits to grab either coffee or an energy drink and followed along UCA Alumna in a guided pumpkin painting.
Junior Sarah Hester said, “I decided to come to the event because some of my friends invited me and I thought it would be a really fun way to spend my Thursday night.
“I really enjoyed being able to learn how to paint something new and just getting to spend time hanging out and laughing with my friends. It was so much fun and I’m so glad I decided to go.”
The event grabbed the attention of many students as spots filled up fast with the line wrapping around the room.
Freshman Alicia Jimenez said, “My favorite part of this event was getting to paint alongside my friends and just having a great time with them. I used to paint all the time back home and I haven’t gotten the chance to do it again while in college. So this definitely was a fun, stress-free activity.”
With finals around the corner, students had the opportunity to decompress and relax their minds with an engaging activity at no expense.
“With finals week up and coming, it just helps to get out of your head and focus on only one thing at a time. And the free refreshments are a huge plus in my books,” Jimenez said.
Not only are the activities provided by organizations around campus intended to be stress relievers but they also give students creative outlets so they can express their emotions.
Hester said, “I definitely think having this event before finals helps students to relax because I have definitely had a stressful and overwhelming last couple of weeks, so being able to do something creative that I normally wouldn’t do and not having to worry about spending money definitely helped me to relax in preparation for finals.”
SAB works to put on activities and events that cater to the UCA students in an effort to raise campus engagement, awareness and fun.
Jimenez said, “I try to attend most SAB events whenever I possibly can, but I really enjoy and appreciate that the Student Activities Board really thinks of who their audience is. Also, how they always put on events that everyone will enjoy. I will definitely be on the lookout for more events like this to go to on campus. Even if I have to drag my friends along with me.”
The Student Activities Board held events such as the Fall Fest, hot air balloon rides and an upcoming “Gladiator II” screening at the Conway Cinemark Nov. 23. To learn more about tickets or upcoming SAB events visit its Instagram page @uca_sab or on CubConnect.
