The UCA track and field team made multiple personal records at North Carolina State University’s Raleigh Relays, including breaking the university’s record for the men’s 10,000-meter.
Graduate student Julian Haessner broke the 10,000-meter UCA record with a time of 29:32.06; he broke the previous record, which he also held, by nine seconds.
His twin brother, graduate student Philipp Haessner, also made a personal record in the men’s 10,000-meter with a time of 29:55.08. This record time secured him a spot on the top-10 list for this event.
According to UCA Sports, coach Josey Weaver said the March 23-25 track event was a success.
“We had a great three days in North Carolina. We are leaving with a lot of personal bests and a new school record,” Weaver said.
The Bears did not compete on day one of the Raleigh Relays, but they did compete in a total of 11 track events on days two and three.
In the women’s 100-meter event, multiple athletes made personal records; junior Ciara Tucker had a time of 11.92, sophomore Kamaria Russell had a time of 12.31, and senior Z’Kiah Kuykendall had a time of 12.42.
In the women’s 200-meter event, the following personal records were made: Tucker’s time of 25.00, Russell’s time of 24.80, St. Louis’ time of 25.27, and junior Ayana Harris’ time of 25.09.
In the men’s 200-meter event, freshman TyJuan Huffman placed 17th with a personal record time of 21.82 and sophomore Preston Barker placed 50th with a personal record time of 22.26.
Sophomore Zadie St. Louis and freshman Grace Deshotels made personal records in the women’s 400-meter event, with times of 56.61 and 57.30; St. Louis placed 42nd in the event, and Deshotels placed 53rd.
Senior Kayla Scott placed 38th in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 1:06.52.
Sophomore Tyrone Luckett placed 19th in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, with a personal record time of 55.45.
The UCA women’s 4×400 relay team, which consists of St. Louis, Deshotels, Russell and sophomore Symone Quiles, placed 17th with a time of 3:48.39.
According to Gopack.com, the North Carolina State University track and field team, also known as the Wolfpack, also had a successful turnout.
“The Wolfpack wrapped up action on the final day of Raleigh Relays with six new personal best marks and an event win,” Gopack.com said.
According to UCA Sports, the next track and field event will be from March 31 to April 1 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Florida.
“When we travel to race against the best in the country, we expect our athletes to rise and thrive to the occasion,” Weaver said. “We are heading back to Conway with a lot of excitement. Could not be more proud of our athletes’ performances. We still have a lot of work ahead to accomplish our goals this season.”
