Sigma Kappa got cheesy with its annual “Sig Kap and Cheese” event to fundraise for its PULSE fund.
On Tuesday, March 14, students from all over campus joined at the Sigma Kappa house to enjoy cheese-related dishes for a good cause.
For an entry fee of $5, students were able to enjoy homemade macaroni and cheese, cheese sticks and other food items within the cheese theme.
Many of the cheesy food items were made by Sigma Kappa members as a way for them to donate to the cause.
Desserts and drinks were also donated by some of the sisters making the layout the perfect dream for any dessert or cheese lover.
As soon as the doors opened, a large crowd came in to enjoy the evening meal.
Katie Ryerson, an attendee, said she enjoyed giving back.
“I really enjoyed the event and I also liked being able to donate to the fund,” Ryerson said.
Many attendees of the event were from other fraternity and sorority chapters who came out to support the fund and the sisters of Sigma Kappa.
Attendees signed up for the event through Sigma Kappa’s CrowdChange link in advance and donated more during the actual event.
This event is one of many to come to fundraise for Sigma Kappa’s philanthropy, PULSE fund.
“We’re trying to get back into doing these events since COVID shut us down for a couple of years,” Julia King, a Sigma Kappa executive, said.
The PULSE fund helps the sisters of Sigma Kappa make it through emergencies such as catastrophic events and more.
“If a sister has an emergency we can potentially give them that money to help them,” King said.
The fund also helps with scholarships, which is the main subject that the Sig Kap & Cheese fundraiser will be going toward, King said.
Sig Kap and Cheese is not the only event that the sorority will be putting on this year. There are even more coming up later this semester, King said.
“For the spring, we are going to try and do a senior prom. We usually work with older people, since one of our clients is gerontology, the study of aging, so we are working with them to put that on,” King said.
Sigma Kappa has worked with seniors this past Valentine’s Day, making them around 500 cards and going to four different homes, King said.
Sigma Kappa will also be making Seacoast mission blankets later this year, where they will make and send Thai blankets to nursing homes in a small town in Maine.
Alongside the aforementioned events, King says they will also be hosting an Earth Day cleanup alongside Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
The event will take place on Earth Day, April 22, and will be a fun and helpful event not just for our community, but for our world, King said.
