The Students for Propagation of Black Culture (SPBC) Homecoming Step Show was a success thanks to the hundreds of students, alumni and members of the community who filled the seats in the auditorium of Ida Waldran.
“Simply seek and you shall find nine organizations so divine”, was the theme of the show as nine organizations competed against each other for SPBC 2007 Homecoming Step Show winner. Many different Greek organizations performed their dance moves down the aisle and balcony of the auditorium and entertained the audience.
The host for the evening was Jayne Casey, a UCA alumna and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. There were seven judges who were graduates of either UCA or the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) and were also a part of a Greek organization.
The themes of the fraternities and sororities ranged from movies to great entertainment. UCA’s chapter of Phi Beta Sigma re-enacted parts from Reno 911!.
Kristoff Sterling dressed in a replica of Lt. Jim Dangle’s uniform, complete with short cutoff khaki shorts with hand prints on the buttocks, The UCA chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha had a boxing theme, and Jeremaine Taylor was their special guest.
UCAÕs chapter of Zeta Phi Beta was original with their theme; they had a scene from Howard University Medical Center and were dressed in blue scrubs. UCA’s chapter of Delta Sigma Theta turned OceanÕs Eleven into Ocean’s 1913. Their elephant was stolen and the only thing left was a ransom note: ‘Step if you can’.
There were also Greek organizations from different schools such as UALR and Southern Arkansas University. The Little Rock chapter of Phi Beta Sigma entered in costumes from the movie Saw and performed scenes from the movie, Scary Movie.
They also represented different sororities like Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Ro, Alpha Kappa Alpha and their sisters Zeta Phi Beta.
Alpha Kappa Alpha from Little Rock had a gangster theme, while Delta Sigma Theta from Little Rock had Charm School. The first place sorority was UCA’s chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. The first place fraternity was UCA’s chapter of Phi Beta Sigma. The overall winner was the UALR fraternity of Phi Beta Sigma.
